    Unique cherry and rosewood side table by Hans J. Wegner

    This unique side table was designed and executed in 1948 by Danish architect Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) and master cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen (1886-1961).

    It has a cherry wood frame. There are three drawers on the front and a shelf below. The feet are of solid rosewood.

    Provenance:  Architect Tang Ørnebjerg. The side table was made by special order for his apartment in Frederiksberg. It was purchased in 1948 directly from Johannes Hansen in Bredgade, Copenhagen. A sketch drawing of the side table plus original receipt with Mr. Wegner’s own signature included. H. 67 cm. (26,4") L. 65 cm. (25,6") W. 45 cm. (17,7")

    This coffee table of Brazilian rosewood was designed and executed by cabinetmaker Frits Henningsen (1889-1965). It has a profiled edge and an apron.     This elegant games table of rosewood folds to half/double size. It has a tabletop with decorative blue toned tiles in the corners and brass fittings. The table was executed ca. in the 1950-1960s. for luxury department store Illums Bolighus in Copenhagen, Denmark. It has the tag of ILLUMS BOLIGHUS KØBENHAVN on the back. H. 74 cm.     This three legged side table in Brazilian Rosewood has three stretchers below joining at the center. The table was made ca. in the 1940s by William Watting. Watting was an American architect, who had a fine furniture store in Copenhagen, Denmark in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. He designed end executed pieces himself as well as sold other high quality modern furniture. Literature: Advertised in "Nyt tidsskrift for kunstindustri", 1947. H. 54 cm. (21,2”)

The legs and frame is teak with visible mortise and tenon joints of rosewood at the corners of the table tops. The top is covered with black formica.
