    Rare earthenware vase with gold leaf by Jens Thirslund

    This rare earthenware vase by Jens Thirslund (1892-1942) manufactured by Herman A. Kähler, Denmark, ca. in the 1920s. It is glazed with sapphire blue, emerald green, white luster and 24-carat gold leaf. The vase has the ‘HAK, Danmark’ monogram incised. In 1875, Herman August Kähler began experimenting with metallic glazes together with the pottery’s artistic director Karl Hansen Reistrup. Kähler and Reistrup achieved recognition at the Great Nordic Exhibition in 1888 held in Copenhagen and the Exposition Universelle of 1889 in Paris. This vase by ceramist Jens Thirslund is a further development of the pottery’s technique with metallic glazes. Similar models to this vase were presented at the Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1925.     The so-called Chinese mahogany coffee table. Executed by cabinetmaker Frits Henningsen ca. in the 1930s. On top it has inlaid unique tiles depicting a fruit basket with decorative flowers. The tiles are handcoloured by painter and ceramist Jens Thirslund and executed at Herman August Kählers (HAK) pottery. The present model was exhibited in ‘Industriforeningen’, Copenhagen in 1933. Stand 12.

    These two very rare earthenware bonbonnières designed by Jens Thirslund (1892-1942) were executed by Herman A. Kähler, Denmark, in the 1920s. The fancy lidded boxes made for delicious confectionery are glazed with emerald green, red and white luster and 24-carat gold leaf. In 1875, Herman August Kähler began experimenting with metallic glazes together with the pottery’s artistic director Karl Hansen Reistrup. Kähler and Reistrup achieved recognition at the Great Nordic Exhibition in 1888 held in Copenhagen and the Exposition Universelle of 1889 in Paris. These bonbonnières by ceramist Jens Thirslund are a further development of the pottery’s technique with metallic glazes. They have the ‘HAK, Danmark’ monogram incised. Exhibited: Similar models were presented at the Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1925.

    'Oldnordic' terracotta evaporator by Michael Andersen

    This impressive ‘Oldnordic’ urn / evaporator of terracotta by Michael Andersen (1859-1931) was executed around 1900. The urn / evaporator is lacquered with an antique bronze. It is to be placed on top of a tiled stove where the content of water was then evaporated to compensate for the otherwise dry climate in a tiled stove. The evaporator is richly decorated with Old Nordic motifs like dragons, runes, shields and ancient ornaments. The runes are the names of the legendary Nordic hero Regnar Lodbrog and his wife, Tora Borgarhjort. Similar model is a part of the Michael Andersen exhibition at Bornholm Museum, Denmark.     This Chinese inspired mahogany coffee table was executed by cabinetmaker Frits Henningsen (1889-1965) ca. in the 1930s. The table top is decorated with unique tiles depicting Chinese Fenghuang birds also called the August rooster - a positive symbol of high virtue and grace. The tiles are handcoloured by painter and ceramist Jens Thirslund and executed at Herman August Kählers (HAK) pottery. Exhibited: The present model was exhibited in ‘Industriforeningen’, Copenhagen in 1933. Stand 12.
